Teaching at the CreativFestival Fall 2019

I was teaching at the CreativFestival, and now I’m home! I’m tired!  And I’m happy!  In spite of some last-minute schedule changes, for the most part my classes were well attended.  It was a WONDERFUL experience, meeting “old” friends, making new friends, and doing what I love to do; teach. (And being paid to do what I love to do is a real plus.)

What Did I Teach?

I taught 3 classes each day, “Serge a Stylish Tee in 1 hour or Less”, “1 Tee-shirt Pattern, Many Looks”, and “Fashion Fabric Know-How”.  The first class had me sitting at a serger, completing a slightly modified Jalie 3352 Dolman with 3/4 sleeves in less than one hour, in front of an audience, answering questions as I serged.  Husqvarna/Viking had agreed to loan me an H-Class 250S serger, which is very similar to my beloved slightly older model, 200S. teaching at the Creativfestival on my Husqvarna/Viking s200 serger

I was also offered the use of the BRAND-NEW Amber Air S400, with the new Air-Threading System”.

The first day I explored the threading and it was so easy I didn’t need the manual!  It threaded sooooooo fast that I didn’t see it happen, so I cut the threads and did it a few more times!  Wow!  Who cuts their serger threads so they can re-thread!  Really!   I serged a few small samples, and was impressed by the quiet purring and power.  The second day I decided to use it for my class, instead of the 250S.  The third day I didn’t even consider not using it!  During my demo I did break a needle, replaced it with a new one and carried on, without a hiccup.  The new LED lighting was bright and glare-free, which made my projects easy to see and serge, so be sure to check it out at your dealer.

New Friends

My new “best friend” is Julie Plotniko, who works at “Snip and Stitch” in Nanaimo, BC.  She had just returned from Husqvarna/Viking convention in Arizona, and eager to share the excitement with me.  Julie taught some very interesting quilt classes at the show.  We shared a room, a couple of leisurely dinners, and transportation between the hotel and the show.

Shopping

I also found a bit of time to shop, buying an interesting piece of printed cotton sweatshirt fleece from Fabric Fabric, 2 spools of Glamore thread from Wonderfil, and a roll of Collins Double Face Basting Tape from “Sew Fancy”.  I used it to hold the first inch or so of my serger seams to prevent hiccups.

As you can see from my links, it was a linking kind of show, linking up with friends, new and old, new products, and new experiences.  I hope to do it all again next year, teaching at the CreativFestival. I will send in my proposals soon, here’s one I’d like to teach; Twin Needle Know-How.

What would YOU like me to teach?  Send me a suggestion (or 2, or more) to yvettechilcott at yahoo dot ca

  3. I attended your 2 classes on Saturday and really enjoyed them. You are a great, enthusiastic teacher and I went right over to The Sewing Cafe and bought the Jalie tee shirt pattern. I have already made up the dolman sleeve one more than once but learned so much from all your tips. Thank you so much.
