Tania Coatigan Sewing Pattern 3906 from Jalie
Tania Coatigan
Sewing pattern for an open-front, relaxed-fit unlined blazer that can be worn as a cardigan the Tania Coatigan.
- Pockets in the diagonal seaming, special notched collar that lays flat against the neck.
- Very versatile, it can be made in a wool blend, a structured knit (ponte) or linen.
- You can size up or down, depending on the look you want (full bust size for a loose fit, upper bust for a relaxed fit)
When Jalie released the line-art diagrams of the new patterns THIS one was my #1 choice! This coat/cardigan Coatigan, inspired my creativity. It’s simple, but elegant lines beckoned like a blank canvas inspires a painter, or a basket of fresh vegies inspires a cook.
I was hooked!
Tania Coatigan in Drapery Fabric
The description states that it can be sized up or down depending on the desired fit. I chose my size by bust measurement and like the fit through the shoulders. Keep in mind that a B cup is generous for me. Not sure of the fit, I chose a piece of gifted-to-me (drapery, I think) fabric from my stash. On some garments, I need to do a “forward shoulder adjustment” but never know until I try the garment on. I chose not to on this first trial. (And discovered it’s not needed)
Construction is simple, and the directions are very clear.
Drapery fabric is NOT woven for garment use, and it frayed terribly. A seam finish I really like is using bias binding and I had the perfect fabric in my stash! I used it along the hems and the edge of the facing, and I LOVE the look. I showed a pic in my teaser post a few days ago. Click here to read that post.
Then my imagination started up AGAIN!
Tania Coatigan as a Denim Jacket
Here’s another sample, this one in denim. Because it’s a “jacket” it needed a zip. I had one in my stash, a really nice one with a pretty “pull”.
I also used a double line of white top-stitching to accent the seams.

ERRATA
There is an error in yardage conversion for sizes R-GG. For measurements in yards, please refer to the back of the pattern available on the website.
As a Jalie Creative Ambassador, I received these patterns at no charge so that I could sew samples and review them. My opinions are honest and my own. If I didn’t like the pattern I wouldn’t have chosen it, and this review reflects my sewing experiences.
Sew, what do you think? I hope you love this pattern as much as I do. I’ll do a separate post to detail the bias finish and the zipper application. Make sure you’ve subscribed to keep up to date.

I really like the Tania Cardigan you made from the heavier fabric in browns. This pattern is so versatile. I am still very partial to the denim look!! Dress it up or relax it down, will depend on the fabric selected!
One comment on the Tania Cardigan pattern photo for Jalie. Perhaps the company could use both mature women and the younger set on the pattern cover. Having a clearer photo of the garment might have more women inspired to sew!
As always Yvette your tailoring skills are exceptional!!
Thank you Heather, as always, your comments are warmly welcome. I look forward to your thoughts. As for the pattern cover photos, I’ve noticed that in the last few years many pattern companies are using models of varied ethnicity, and sizes, but they not included many mature models. I suggest you contact Jalie with that observation.
Oh!!! Yvette, again this is exceptionally well done!!! love the style of both jackets… I have some denim which I will save to make this version with the zipper.. like Heather mentioned it can be dressed up or down… great pattern Jalie!
yes, thank you Suzanne, I love this pattern, too. By all means use your denim for this jacket, it’s perfect!
Have my pattern and waiting for the sewalong!
Big cyber hug going out to you Jane, I plan to start the first chapter this coming weekend,

thank you, Karen, it’s a first for me, too! Welcome!
I’ve checked out your lesson plan. I am thinking that you want us to wait and you will take us step by step right from taping the pattern together (pdf) to making adjustments etc.? What amount of time are you thinking of between steps? I am expecting guests from next Friday to Monday so I am hoping to still keep up.
Hi Jane, you’ll be fie 🙂 and don’t have to “keep up”. On Monday I’m posting about choosing the right size and if you need to make any alterations.
Thanks Yvette. So looking forward to this. Pulled the fabric out of my stash this afternoon, which led to my reorganizing my stash. Lol! It was fun finding fabric I had forgotten I had!😊
