Stack & Whack a 6-Pack
Stack (& whack) a 6-Pack
I sew more than garments. I quilt, too. Mostly scrap quilts. But others, too. Our quilt guild, the Trent Valley Quilter’s Guild asked me to teach a workshop on “Stack & Whack” in the Spring of 2019. I agreed and the fun began. A one-day workshop requires a project that can be mostly completed in one day. Therefore I chose to teach a stack and whack bed-runner.
Here are all of my blocks, laid out randomly on a piece of burgundy fabric. I have yet to decide on my contrast colour, but I’m sure I have something somewhere in my bottomless stash. I’m thinking blue or a golden yellow.
I went to our local quilt shop, Andjareena’s Place, and chose this print. It has a twelve-inch pattern repeat which is ideal for my pattern. There were quite a few others there for you to buy that would work well.
Here are two of my twelve completed stack and whack blocks. They’re made of six identical triangles, (6-pack?) meeting in the center.
A workshop needs to run seamlessly, ha ha, consequently it’s important that my instructions are clear. My focus will be on accurate cutting, accurate sewing and having fun. In order to waste as little fabric as possible, I designed a template to make the cutting of the pieces efficient and economical.
I’ll post more as I work through this stack and whack, so be sure to subscribe for up to date information.
Your students will enjoy this design! Very creative and I love the pattern of the fabric you chose.
thank you, the fabric looks like a watercolour, and I love it, too.
I’ve done several ‘Stack and Whack’ quilts Yvette. They are magical.
Do you have more info on how to make the stack & whack?
I taught the stack & whack as a paid workshop to our local quilt guild. If you’re a member of another guild or group, I’d be up to teaching it again.
