I fell in love with this pattern as soon as I saw the line-art. I’m a fan of raglans, dolman, turtle-necks and soft knits. That’s already 4 stars! I made the tunic length to wear over (Clara) leggings. (the new, super fast to sew Stella would be perfect with Romy, too) (And I have plans to “hack” Romy with a front zipper.) Watch for it.
Anyway, Romy was a treat to sew. I had a piece of the perfect knit in my stash. Good thing, too because all the fabric shops were closed at the time, due to Covid19. If you’ve been with me for a while you’ll recognize it, I used it to make a Jalie) Rachel last year.
The collar has an interesting finish, very quick, efficient, and genius, as I’ve come to expect from Jalie.
The sleeves are finished with attached cuffs, so the only finishing after assembly is to hem the bottom. Fun, fast and easy, I LOVE it!

Elle 4015 by Yvette
To be honest, there is no way I thought I could carry off that drape at the front, but that the back would be fine. WRONG! I was worried that my mature wine loving (and now sourdough social distanced bread) tummy would be accentuated. WRONG! Lesson here? Never assume. I knew that. But, you know……
Again I went to “the stash” and found a piece of very soft navy rib knit. I used it before, when I was sewing samples of Jalie’s free Yoko. Read about that pattern by clicking here.
It’s VERY soft, and has no body at all, perfect for this pattern, but I found it a bit tricky to finish the neck and armholes. Wash-away basting tape to the rescue. Not only does it hold well, it stabilizes to make the sewing easy.
Sewing the drape was well described, and in no time at all I was wearing it!
What do you think of Romy and Elle, these 2 new patterns? I only have one pattern remaining to review, and it’s the lovely summer dress with the decorative stitching. See you here on Thursday!
I have just tried the Elle for the first time for my 12 year old. I was surprised by how high the sweep for the knot is. She is a bit uncomfortable having her belly button showing but will wear it with high waisted pants. I might try lengthening the top part and shortening the sweep. It came together pretty easily though!
Hi Erin, the first garment in a pattern you’ve not sewed before is always a bit of trial and error. If my pants didn’t sit at my waist my belly button might show too, oh dear. A tank top underneath could solve that for your daughter, or just turn it around. Nice to have options. 🙂 Sew on!
