Plant Hammock for a Very Heavy Plant
A Very Heavy Plant needs a Strong Plant Hammock
This plant hammock was inspired by my friend Cheryl who wanted fabric in her garden. I LOVE that idea, and had one more plant hammock to make, this one for a big, heavy (ugly) pot.
The planter pot measured 34 inches from the top edge, around the bottom and back to the opposite top edge.
To make my plant hammock, I cut a square of canvas 2 inches larger than that measurement, which allowed for a 1 inch hem/casing all the way around the plant hammock.
At each corner I measured in 2 inches from the point, drew a line across, then folded the point to the inside along the line. (hint; use the grid on a cutting mat to make the measuring easy)
I stitched the point down using a 3-step zig-zag stitch, securing at each end. Press a 1 inch hem to the inside along each straight edge. The corners should end up mitered. With the same 3-step zig zag, sew along the raw edge of the fabric, creating a casing. Be sure to back stitch at the beginning and ending of each seam. You don’t want your plant hammock to fall apart with a heavy plant in it.
Decorate the outside of your canvas square as desired. You could paint, colour, or add fabric applique. I stitched rectangles of brightly coloured fabric randomly in place, using the same 3-step zig zag.
Cut 4 pieces of strong cord to the desired length and insert one into each casing. Mine are 5 feet and I wish I had made them 6 feet.
Too late!
Tie all 8 ends into a firm knot, insert a planter pot, and hang your plant hammock into place.
That’s it, now you can water the planter.

A plant hanger tutorial is here.
Just in time for nice weather, would you make one of these? How would you embellish your plant hammock? Leave me a comment, and remember, sharing is caring.
