My First Pair Sewn

Finally! Nordik!  I made view “B”. Keeps my tootsies warm! My feet are large (size 10) and wide, and most “store-bought” slippers are narrow and press against the little toe on my left foot causing pain. Not these! A remnant of flannel, scraps of poly quilt batting, (thank you Lucie)! I made size 27 and used a chunk of shelf liner for the outer sole. These are NOT reversible.  Thank you for Nordik, Jalie. Now that I’ve been wearing them for a few days, I’d like to add; The shelf liner is a bit “clingy” to my ceramic tile floor, but is for sure non-slip”, and it’s holding up well.  Next will be the laundry test.  I did read that some people used a non-slip fabric specially designed for this, but I have no local source and of course wanted these NOW!

Some Nordik Details

I dug into my scrap bin for this pair of Nordiks and came out with a couple of chunks of flannel in a Buffalo plaid of red and black.  My friend Lucie had given me a bag of poly quilt scraps that I layered to come up with the 1 inch thickness suggested.  A scrap of dark grey ribbing was large enough for the back, bits of elastic too long to throw away and all that was left to come up with was what to use for the bottom.  My local department store has non-slip shelf liner that seemed thin enough to sew through in black, DONE!

I added a layer of thin fusible non-woven interfacing to the sole lining piece because the flannel frayed easily.  It made the final step simpler.

More Nordiks are Planned

Sew, I made view “B” and it was an easy make. The download PDF is easy to work with as there are only a few pages for each view.  I really like the way Jalie patterns are engineered!  The pieces go together really well and construction is brilliant.  The thickness in some areas meant slow-sewing, but it wasn’t a problem.

I highly recommend these sewing clips instead of trying to use pins in the thick areas.  Most sewing retailers carry them.

These will make great gifts and are a quick sew (important at this time of year). I have ideas for some simple variations, too.
