Jalie’s Description of Mimi Mittens

Insulated winter mittens for kids (junior) and adults with nylon outer, insulation and warm or moisture-wicking lining. A practical elastic strap keeps each pair together when the mittens are stored, and provides a good fit around the wrist.

My hands are often cold and with Raynaud’s syndrome, sometimes painful, too.  When I saw this pattern, I couldn’t wait to sew myself a pair.  They look so cozy.   And they ARE!

17 Sizes Included

This Mimi Mitten pattern covers most hand sizes and shapes.  From Junior sizes and adults with slender hands plus adults with wider hands.  My hands are large and wide, so I chose the size large from the wide option.  They fit me perfectly.

Suggested Fabrics for Mimi Mittens

Suggested fabric is nylon for the outer layer, insulation, and for the lining, wicking fabric or polar fleece for extra warmth.  I just happened to have a piece of leftover nylon AND matching polar fleece.  I had sewn Jalie’s Maxime 3-Season Jacket as a guest post for the Fabricville blog, and I had some leftovers of the nylon and polar fleece that I used for that project.  For the insulation I used scraps of fluffy white polyester quilt batting.  The nylon and my choice of insulation created a slippery situation which made these mitts a bit tricky  to make.  The batting was so fluffy that it caught on the “toes” of my presser foot at times.  BUT it will make these very warm to wear! And I used the same polar fleece for the cuffs.

This is another winner from Jalie!   The well written but very concise instructions, were easy to follow with many well-drawn diagrams.  If I was unsure, I positioned the pieces the way they were shown in the diagrams and then it was clear.

And that elasticized strap is genius!

Now that my hands are warm, I’m going to make another pair of cozy slippers using Jalie’s Nordik pattern.  I’ve made them before and I love them.  I wrote a post about my first pair, which I wore right through the soles.
