Three-season jacket with clever 2-in-1 pockets.

  • Encased elastic at hem and cuffs keeps the breeze out.
  • The zipper has a full-length shield that doubles as a chin guard.

Your fabric choice will make it a light windbreaker or a toasty fall jacket.

Let’s begin with the disclaimers: As a Jalie Creative Ambassador, I received this pattern at no charge so that I could sew samples and review it.  My opinions are honest and my own.  If I didn’t like the pattern I wouldn’t have chosen it, and this review reflects my sewing experiences.

There’s also a fabric disclaimer:  I was given 2 meters of “Arctica” by Siltex so that I could sew something with it and as a result provide my opinion.  It was originally destined to become pants for my hubby, but he didn’t need a new pair as much as he needed a jacket.

(Siltex is a supplier of quality textiles to manufacturers, cottage industry, retailers, and fabric buying institutions for close to 50 years. Their original mill and now head office is located in Winnipeg, Canada.)  When I owned Pine Ridge Knit & Sew, Siltex was one of my premium fabric suppliers.  Their quality fabrics, especially their “out-door” had an important place in my lineup therefore I’ve kept in touch with them, even after I sold my business.

Arctica is 150 cm wide / 70% Polyester/30% Cotton and at the time of this post comes in 12 solid colours.  (I used colour 10-0115-CHAR) It’s a dream to sew and wear!  I used a Schmetz Denim 14/90 needle for construction.  To find a local retailer please follow this link to the Siltex website and contact them.

Now Let’s get this Sewing Going!

This pattern was everything I expected, and more.  Designed for girls and women, it adapted very well to my tall hubby.  The zipper shield was my first experience (easy) and I love the fully lined design, the front tucks and the ingenious pockets.  I used his chest measurement to select the size and then lengthened the body and sleeve to his measurement.  (He’s 6 ft 3″)  The lining is a polyester mesh from Fabric Fabric.  (bought on line due to social distancing) I just happened to have a zipper in my stash.  It was the right length!!!!

I wish I’d had this pattern years ago when my children were young, I’d have used it over and over.  With the great size range, and suitable for girls AND boys, it would have been a T&T (tried and true) for me.

  1. Wow – that looks fantastic! You did a great job! I wish I could sew like you
but I would never tackle a jacket like that……far too intimidating! Maybe in another 50 years I’ll try it (lol)

    • Oh Judy, thank you. But, that jacket looks more intimidating than it is. Not really that hard, just baby steps, one at a time. It’s the style details that make it look harder than it is, but they’re all doable.
