Karine Raglan Cardi by Jalie

Karine Raglan Cardigan

Karine Raglan Cardigan on my dress form

Sew, this Karine Raglan Cardi #4242 is a real WINNER!  Since sewing it a few weeks ago, I have worn it most days.  The comfortable fit, 2 roomy pockets, the great sleeve and body length, AND it’s “my” colour”.

Karine is another one of Jalie’s new releases, and it fits perfectly into my wardrobe.  I had the perfect piece of “unknow fiber” in my stash, enough for this cardi, and Jalie’s Zoom, the modern jogger.  (Read about that here.)

Here’s Jalie’s Description of Karine Raglan Cardigan:

front cover of Karine

Boxy cardigan with long raglan sleeves. The neckline is finished with a wide band at the front. Two length options: sweater length, without pockets (A), and tunic length, with pockets.

This pattern includes sizes for kids, teens, and adults (up to 2X). It is also available in Jalie’s expanded size range (1X-5X).

Sizing  28 sizes included in the pattern
Recommended fabric  Medium-weight knit (ponte di roma, sweatshirt fleece, scuba, double knit, sweater knit) with 30% stretch across the grain and length.
Instructions  French, English
Measurements   Metric and imperial
Sewing allowances  6 mm (1/4’’), included

More of my Observations:

My fabric choice obviously made it easy to sew, it was sturdy, with the perfect amount of stretch in the width, and enough in the length, but not 30%.  That isn’t a problem.

I used a fusible knit interfacing where directed, which added no weight, just stability.  When I make it again, I will add a strip of the same interfacing at the top of the back where it folds it, just to add a bit more stability.

(My rounding shoulders pull at the back neck, and I’m going to start thinking about making an adjustment on a few more of the garments I sew to address that.)

Heat n Bond in the top of the pocket

I did make my pockets a little differently than the instructions due to the thickness of my fabric.  After fusing a strip of Heat n Bond Featherlite to the inside of each pocket, I folded the top to the right side and then serged around the 3 remaining sides.  Then after turning the pocket top to the right side I peeled off the paper and fused the top into place.  This made it a breeze to top-stitch across the pocket top to keep the facing in place, AND it tucked the top corners away from sight.

My Karine closes using plastic Kam-snaps.  I’m a real fan of these, they’re very durable, inexpensive, and come in loads of colours. In the next few photos I am wearing Karine over Jalie’s Raglan Tee and the new Zoom modern joggers.
