Jalie’s Tank & Swimshorts
Jalie’s Tank & Swimshorts
Thanks to Marlene, of That Sewing Place Newmarket, I made Jalie’s tank and swimshorts to swim in. I would never have looked twice at this combo, but I don’t really know why. I am a real fan of tankinis, and that’s what this combination turned into. I teach for That Sewing Place, both virtually and in person, and Marlene asked me to teach this combo. Always up for a challenge, I said “sure”!
The Tank:
This pattern #2565 for a bandeau, tube-top and racerback tank is one of Jalie’s older ones and is only available as a PDF. After making a working sample of the tank, I made a few changes to suit MY body. I changed the racerback into a “normal” back for more back coverage and added a shelf bra.
The Swimshorts
Jalie’s #3351 swim short pattern is one I guess I just missed. These are genius! Good coverage, a flattering shape, and POCKETS!
They look like a low rise, but as the size goes up, so does the rise. For me, when I make these again, I’ll add 1-inch to the ride. But these are definitely wearable. I made no changes to the pattern, just cut my size (X) and I’m really happy with the finished product.
My fabrics for both the tank and the shorts came from Discovery Fabrics in BC Canada. The quality is superb, I would describe it as “beefy”.
We broke the class into 4 sessions; lesson one was sizing, alterations and options, lesson 2 we sewed the tank, lessons 3 and 4 were making the swim shorts. I’m looking forward to seeing pics of the finished products!
