How I Drafted my Functional Front Pockets for Jalie’s Eleonore Pull-on Jeans Pattern

Functional Front Pockets

Wow, that’s the longest title I’ve written, then shortened it to functional front pockets.  (Sew far)  When Jalie’s  Eleonore Pull-on Jean pattern was first released the front pockets were “faux”.  Non-functional.  After I made a pair (or 2, or 3) I knew I needed functional front pockets and drafted my own.  And wrote about how I did it and how I adjusted the pattern to suit my mature figure.  Here’s the post.

I wrote up a PDF tutorial for the many people who requested it, and then just continued sewing my Eleonore with that pocket.  Jalie has since come out with a “Pocket Add-on” that you can purchase from their website that is inexpensive, awesome, and quite a bit different than mine.

Drafting Functional Front Pockets via Zoom

I’m now teaching a garmentry class for That Sewing Place in Newmarket, and we’re sewing Eleonore Pull on Jeans!  Via Zoom!  Time to re-address my pocket instructions!  Teaching on Zoom has it’s challenges.  In the class-room I would gather everyone around, grab the pattern front and yoke pieces, some paper, a ruler, pins and pen and then demonstrate.  Questions would be addressed as they come up.

On Zoom everything is shown via a camera or 2.  Much harder to follow.  I demonstrated my pocket in the last class and quickly realized I needed to make a video.  That way anybody following it could stop and start it over and over again as needed.

So I did.  Recorded just now and added to my YouTube channel.  Click here to view it.

There is an updated accompanying printable PDF as well, with all the information to print. Please email me at yvettechilcott@yahoo.ca and I’ll send it to you.  It is a printable PDF that requires Adobe reader, a free download.  Click here to go to the Adobe Reader download page.
