Florence & Stella 2 more from Jalie’s 2020
Introducing Florence, and Stella
Today I’d like to introduce you to Florence 4020 and Stella 4023; Jalie 2020’s great friends. Florence is my new best friend and I’m having a great time with her. She is a star in her own right, but gets along with others such as Stella, the new legging pattern really well. Let’s get to know Florence!
Florence 4020 by Jalie

- The shirt (A) hits just above high hips.
- The dress version hits just above the knee and includes in-seam pockets.
RECOMMENDED FABRIC
Light-weight woven fabrics with a soft hand and nice drape
Florence 4020 #1 Dress by Yvette
For this Florence dress I used a sheer (very sheer) polyester chiffon that was in my stash. WHY????? I loved the colour, navy with little white dots, but that’s all I loved about it. It’s a NASTY fabric, it slipped, slithered, and I’m sure I heard it hiss more than once. Looking back, I wish I’d added a bit of length in the body. Oh well, too late.
Double-sided basting tape saved my sanity (and my cool) by holding the pocket in place before topstitching it into place. It also held the seam allowance of the collar down before top-stitching it into place at the neck. The hem was tape-basted up as well before top-stitching.
I chose to use white plastic snaps instead of trying my patience with buttonholes. I like the finished look a lot!

Stella Leggings by Yvette
These are classic leggings for sure! Just 1 pattern piece, with fabric folded right sides together, cut them out, sew or serge the front and back seams, open that out, sew or serge the inseam, add the elastic, hem and wear. I didn’t even need to hem mine so in 20 minutes they went from a piece of gorgeous stretch border lace from my stash to wearing them! I bought that fabric from Distinctive Sewing Supplies just before Catherine retired and closed her on-line shop.
It’s very sheer, and I’ll only wear them under dresses as footless tights. With white panties. I’m quite modest and “of an age” where panty lines, bra straps and too much skin feels wrong.
Florence will be back, tomorrow, with Renee.

Love the idea of in seam pockets in Florence pattern.
ah yes, pockets, so necessary aren’t they?
Love the top, looks great on you.
You are rocking that outfit! I never considered the Florence for myself, but after seeing yours…. On the other hand, I have buttonholes AND snaps so..,
I meant to say *hate* buttonholes
Karen, the plastic “cam-snaps” “Kam snaps” are fantastic, I highly recommend them instead of buttons. Thanks for the compliment, it’s a fun outfit!
