Flair! New Mask Patterns by Jalie
Exciting Mask Patterns?
Yep, in Flair, new mask patterns from Jalie, are 4 impeccably drafted mask patterns in 5 (yes 5) sizes! And, with all the free patterns available out there (including my own) I wondered what could possibly be new. Well, along with those masks is a headband, plus a clever bag with zippers to carry your masks in. This collection is a brilliant contribution to mask-making.

My Take:
Sew, choosing size L, I made all 4 styles in Flair, the new mask patterns from Jalie, and more than 1 of my favourite style.
One of our local stores; “Nancy’s Sewing Nook”, stocks an Anti-Microbial Interfacing and I used it inside some of my samples. Here’s a link to their facebook page. I also bought the cute pop-bottle cap fabric there.
View “A” Diamond-Front Design
OMG I love this print! A remnant of brown “grunge” was used as the accent. The diamond front shape stays off your face giving you breathing space.
View “B” with nose dart and chin piece
This style is my favourite of the group. It was easy to make, and the separate pattern piece for the chin keeps the mask in place on my face. I can talk and yawn, and my mask stays put. There’s plenty of room under my chin and still feels secure. This style would suit a face with a definite chin. A nose-wire fits across the bridge of my nose and my glasses don’t steam up when I wear it. This fabric is also a remnant of “grunge”. And did you see my festive ear-rings?
View “C”; View B style finished with foldover elastic, with clear window to improve visibility of facial expressions
I LOVE the concept of this mask. My lip-reading friends appreciate the “window” and the fold-over elastic at the top and bottom is soft against my skin.
View “D”: Folded style
I sewed this view first and made the size M, which is a bit small for me. It’s an easy sew (as they all are) and the folded front doesn’t cling to your mouth, making it really comfortable. The nose-wire helps shape the top so glasses don’t fog up.
My Take-Away;
Printing and taping the patterns were easy, at most it’s only 3 pages per style. I suggest that after printing and taping that you trace off the size you need. I traced the pattern pieces that were to go on a fold, onto a folded piece of tracing tissue so that I had a full piece to pin onto my fabric. That was very helpful for view “C” and getting the “windows” matched up better.
For my own personal needs I’m fine with the elastic behind my ears so have no need for the head-band. The travel pouch is next on my to-do list.
