Emilie, a Free Pattern from Jalie!
Do you sew with Jalie patterns? You know I do. I’ve sewn up a lot of Jalie patterns for children, myself and my hubby. At a recent sewing retreat, Emilie was wearing a really nice pink top that was a cross between a cozy sweater and a classy tunic. We all admired it, and she whispered that it was going to be a free pattern to be released just before Christmas. Enter “Emilie”! Emilie, a free pattern from Jalie!
Here’s that free pattern from Jalie, just for you!
Go get it!
Square-shaped loose-fitting top with roll-neck, drop shoulder and semi-fitted sleeve. A cozy and versatile garment. The smallest size fits my 2-year-old niece!
If you’ve not sewn using a Jalie downloadable PDF, here’s your chance to try one, for free. I hope you like the clear, concise instructions as much as I do. It’s also a good way to see what Jalie layered PDF’s are like to work with. Layered means you only have to print off the size(s) you want, without all the clutter of the other lines.
You could easily sew those 2 in just over one hour. Due to the simplicity of the shape, and the easy fit, it’s a perfect pattern to sew up for gifts. Just be sure you choose a soft, draping fabric with 40% stretch in both the width and length.
Some Construction Details for my Emilie
I made my first sample in a shiny, silky rayon knit.
Because of the nature of this fabric, I took a couple of extra steps; I fused 1 inch wide strips of Tricot-knit interfacing along the front shoulder seam, around the neckline, then 1 inch wide strips of Heat ‘n Bond Lite at the hems.
Due to the slipperiness of this fabric, I basted the raw edges of the collar together after serging the back seam. Only then did I serge the collar to the neckline.
I also discovered that if I pressed the sleeve seam allowance toward the sleeve, I could begin serging the side seam from the bottom toward the wrist, and have no weird seam at the underarm. As a result, the construction was quick and easy.
On Friday I’ll write a post about how I “hacked” this pattern, and show you some of my samples.

I almost forgot to add this note about the links to Amazon.ca to some of the products I use and endorse. While I feel that shopping locally and supporting our local merchants should be our first choice, sometimes it isn’t possible. Clicking on the product link will take you to Amazon.ca so you can make your purchase there. The price you pay is the same, and I get a little commission. Thank you.
Love this top Yvette!! Little girls look so cute in theirs! Nice choice of fabric too.
Great pattern, thanks for sharing. Beautiful nieces. Love both choices of fabric!!!!
Thank you Jan!
Thank you Heather! I hope to wear a different variation of this pattern to our Quilt Guild meeting today.
Thanks for sharing this one. I looked at it, and thought, well, that’s easy to draft. But, the work is done, so why not just appreciate the offer! I like the Jalie patterns–lots of fun.
great choice! Have fun with it, and be sure to share your makes! Hope to see you the next time you’re down this way.
