I chose to make the dress version using a slub  linen look fabric from Fabricville that’s really a rayon blend,  in the fresh spring coral colour.  Fabricville calls it “orange” but it really isn’t.

My disclaimer:  Fabricville gave me this fabric at no-charge in exchange for me writing a guest Fabricville blog post.

(Unfortunately right now I can’t seem to be able to sign into the Fabricville blog account, so that post will wait until the techie at Fabricville comes back to work after the social distancing is behind us.  I’ll let you know.)   That’s a pretty good deal for me but bear in mind that the opinions expressed here are my own, and if I was unhappy with the fabric I’d say so.  I’m happy!

It’s a “Slub Linen Look” , Fabricville’s product # is AR808 Colour 004

This rayon fabric is light and has a fluid drape. Perfect to sew top, skirts, dresses and pants.
Fabric Care: Hand wash
Contents: 85% Rayon/15% Nylon
Fabric width: 55 inch (140 cm)

I had fun making this dress.  My fabric is easy to work with, and I added a few embellishments.  My sewing machine (Husqvarna/viking’s Epic2) has a bazillion decorative stitches, and I had fun trying some of them out with different threads.  A variegated coral to cream was the winner and was awarded the honour of embellishing the center front seam of my dress.

These wide satin stitches need stabilizer to prevent pulling or tunneling of the fabric, so I fused a long piece of a lightweight fusible interfacing the width of the pressed open seam allowance to the wrong side and it kept everything smooth and flat.
The front neck and the armholes are finished with bias binding so I chose a pretty flowery fabric from my stash and made my own.   I really like the effect!  Even if it is on the inside!

I used the same stitch on the pocket hems, too.

In Conclusion:

This was a great project for me to work on, it stimulated my creativity and I ALWAYS like that.  I’m going to make it again, as a blouse, in the same fabric that I used to sew a pair of Simone (by Jalie) to get the look of a jumpsuit.  It’s a look I really like, but not a real jumpsuit.  You can read my review of Simone by clicking here.

This is my final post to introduce a few of Jalie’s 2020 new patterns.  They never disappoint me, always use ingenious methods of assembly, and I really like the clear and concise instructions, only a few pages to print instead of a “book”.  I’ll be making many of them again, “hacking” and changing them up to fuel my creativity.  I already have another Florence made with no collar and large appliqued flowers on it’s front.  Another pair of Renee pants are already finished, my next ones will have pockets.  Watch for it!  Thanks for coming back again and again, I appreciate your visits and comments.

Now I’m going to unbox the new serger that hubby bought me, a Husqvarna/viking 250s!

Afternoon is lovely and your added touches to the design just make the dress pop! I think the photos can not highlight these embellishments. A must see in person!! Well these days we will not be able to see you close up and personal Yvette! So photos will have to suffice!! Beautiful sewing and the fit is very nice. I wonder what the dress would look if you added sleeves for the fall outfit. The tie at waist really finishes the dress . I liked it a lot!! You have been a busy sista!!

  2. Thank you Heather, it was a joy to make. Many of us chose to sew Biancas, and they’re all so different, I think the simple lines are a jumping off point for creativity.

  3. Pretty and cool for the summer. I may have to add a bust dart but
I have the perfect fabric, trim and threads in my stash for Bianca!
