Beginner Zoom Class Jalie Martin

Are you, or do you know someone who is beginning to sew garments (clothes)?  The first time I met “Martin”, Jalie’s pattern for lounge pants and/or boxers, I just KNEW that it was a great pattern for a beginner. AND a great pattern to teach sewing to beginners.  Stitch by Stitch Kingston thought so too, and made it happen; A Beginner Zoom Class Jalie Martin!

When does the Class Begin?

This class begins Tuesday September 14th via Zoom at 7 pm Eastern Daylight (Toronto) time and goes for 3 consecutive weeks. To begin with you’ll need to register with Stitch by Stitch Kingston, (follow the above link) and that pattern. You’ll need a tablet or computer so you can Zoom with us on lesson nights. 

What will you Learn in the Class?

 I’ll help you choose the correct size and show you which pattern pieces to trace, and which marks on the pattern that you need to include.  You’ll want some paper (I use medical paper on a roll) to trace off the size you want to make. (28 sizes are included in the pattern.) I recommend you make your first pair in good quality flannel.  (It’s easy to cut, sew and wear.)

You’ll also need a sewing machine in good working order, a new needle, thread and elastic for the waist. I sew a LOT and use my serger wherever I can.  BUT, this entire garment can be sewn on a sewing machine.  To demonstrate that, one pair (of the 4 pairs I’ve sewn now) was made entirely on my sewing machine, using just 2 basic stitches.    A full supply list will be given out upon registration.  

We’ll talk about the importance of pre-washing your fabric, and how to prevent it from turning into a mess in the drier.  We’ll discuss the “grain-line” and why it’s important.  After pinning your pattern pieces to the fabric, and carefully cutting each piece out, we’ll begin to sew.  There will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions as they come up, during the class and in between lessons via email.
