All Dressed Up in Jalie
There’s a family wedding coming up, and as the father-of-the-groom’s wife, I just knew that my “uniform” of Jalie’s Eleonores wouldn’t do. Time to dress up. A bit. I don’t wear dresses anymore, except in the heat of the summer, so it was going to be some sort of pant outfit.
I chose Melanie 3889 in a flowing floral rayon print, over a sleeveless Dolman 3352 in a bright pink thin knit and Vanessa 3676 pants in black pinwale corduroy. A dear friend gave me the jewelry a few years ago and it’s perfect with this all dressed up in Jalie outfit, don’t you think?
All Dressed Up in Jalie, my Pattern Hacks:
Melanie 3889:
- Shortened it by 5 inches
- interfaced the neckband
- omitted the pockets
- made the belt but am not going to wear it with this outfit
Dolman 3352:
- the neckline is cut 1/2-inch narrower at each side
- the front neckline is raised by 1-inch
- the neckband was cut at 2 inches wide recalulated for length. This knit has virtually NO memory so I used 80%.
- (confession, I mixed up the right/wrong side of the fabric for the back, but only another sewist would notice.)
I wrote a post about making another dolman here: Sew Easy Jalie Dolman 3352 – SewWhatYvette
Vanessa 3676:
- raised the rise by 1-inch
- omitted the faux fly
- omitted the drawstring
- lined the pocket in a wild pink/black/grey stripe
- totally hacked the legs to a lantern leg.
Black curdoroy does NOT photograph well, my appologies.
I’m really pleased at how this ensemble turned out. It expresses ME perfectly.
I haven’t shown hubby yet, he bought a 3-piece formal navy blue suit with a cream coloured shirt. And that expresses him, perfectly!
If you would like a tutorial on how I hacked the Vanessa pant to the lantern leg, please let me know.
The colours and style suit you.
It drapes beautifully.
thank you Carol!

As you very well know I don’t sew very fast….lol.
