Add Side Drapes to a Tee
I first taught this hands-on workshop at the Toronto CreativFestival. Why did I add side drapes to a Tee? The inspiration came from ready-to wear, and it’s such a flattering addition. See how the fabric just flows over the hip area? I received many requests for a class after wearing my samples around my sewing friends and colleagues. And that’s how a class is born.
Each student brought their favourite tee pattern, paper, a ruler and coloured pens/pencils. They all went home with a personalized customized pattern and were excited to go home and sew.
I was hoping to teach at the CreativFestival again this year, but Covid has derailed those plans along with so many others. So, instead of having in-person classes, I re-wrote my hand-out to include all the details I would have shared in the classroom and then published them for you to buy and work on at home. I’m as close as email in case you have questions. yvettechilcott at yahoo dot ca
Start with a Tee pattern that fits you well with a flattering length. If you’ve made fitting adjustments use the altered version. I use Jalie’s Girls and Womens Tee Shirts 2805. It suits my body shape (with a couple of adjustments) and I love the way it fits. It’s also a great pattern to sew up.
I used 2805 as one of my garments when I participated in “The Wardrobe Contest” on www.patternreview.com, here a link to that post.
I’m going to make a similar sample with 3352 Dolman Tops.
This $5 tutorial includes all the details that I include in a hands-on class, PLUS, you can contact me by email if you have ANY questions about the content.
