Add Rise Length to Jalie’s Vanessa Pant Pattern
Another Jalie project! Vanessa #3676 by Jalie! This project fulfils 2 needs, #1 will be a guest post for Fabricville’s blog, #2 will become a class at Stitch by Stitch Kingston. On Zoom of course.
As part of my class prep, I’m going to make myself a brand new pair, in a baby-blue linen-look fabric. I’ve made this pattern a time or two, and need to add to the rise measurement for my own personal taste. I like my pants to come to my waist, and these are a little low. You might notice on the cover photo that they sit about 1 inch below the navel.
How I Add Rise Length to Jalie’s Vanessa Pant Pattern
After tracing off the pieces onto the medical paper that I like to use, I make sure all the notches, and pattern marks are traced, and I lengthen the grain lines on all the pieces I need to alter. The extended grain line will make it easier to keep your pattern pieces lined up after cutting them.
I added 1 inch to each of these pieces, using the hip notch as my base point. That notch is on all 4 pieces.
Measure up 2 inches from that notch on the front, back, pocket and pocket facing. Draw a line perpendicular to the grain line. Cut across each piece on that line, spread it out by 1 inch and tape each piece onto a piece of paper slipped underneath. Then “true” up the lines using a ruler or a “style curve”. Be sure to draw the front curve EXACTLY the same as you draw the pocket curve,
I made a video to show you how. Here’s the link:
