“Everywhere” I look, I see shirts, shackets, and cozy vests!  Do a google search of “shacket”, just for fun.

Claudette is the jumping off point for most of the results.  Most of them are shown in plaids.  My first Claudette was sewn in a cotton linen blend, black and white yarn-dyed plaid.  Read my post by clicking here.

I’m in the middle of teaching a Claudette Zoom class for That Sewing Place Newmarket, which requires more teaching samples.  Hence, another Claudette!  I make samples for every class I teach, so that I can demonstrate certain tricky steps.  This one is made of a wool blend, black background with bright abstract flowers.  I really enjoyed sewing this one, and was ready for more!

When I teach a class, the participants ask a lot of questions, (especially the Newmarket gang), that make me think, often “outside of the box”.  I shared the images that I found during my google search, and there was one style that really captured my attention.

Here’s my take!

The fabric is a medium weight cotton plaid.  It reminds me of the hunting shirts my first husband wore.   I cut it the dress length according to the pattern, using the same size as the previous shirts.  (I made those a bit on the large side.)  The chest pockets are faux, just the flaps are real.  I really like the way Jalie finishes the hem of the dress length and used the same finish for the armholes.  I did change the width of the strips though, as my fabric frays easily.

Covered buttons complete “the look”.

I already have another one cut out, my next one is wool, and will be dress length and have sleeves.  I think I love this pattern, lol!

I hope I have inspired you to create YOUR look using this very versatile pattern, Claudette by Jalie.
